The Art Without Boundaries Association
|
Congratulations!
You've been chosen to join the Art Without Boundaries Association and open an AWB Affiliated Chapter.
|
You've shown me that you can read and comprehend
information and that you've got good follow through
skills. You're on your way to becoming a Member of
AWBA.
Whether you are an Entrepreneur and plan to hire
artists, or you are an artist and will be running the
chapter yourself, this is information you need to know
before starting the program. I'll try to make it as painless
as possible by keeping it in the Q and A format instead
of a difficult-to-read agreement written in legalese.
The purpose is still the same: To make sure you understand what will be expected of you and what you can
expect from AWBA. At the end of this page you will be asked to submit your signature that you have read
and understood this information. The Non-disclose, non complete agreement is a legally binding document.
There will be a link where you can print the agreement without the pictures.
Q: How do I get started?
A: Membership in the AWBA is required for training to become a
MnemeTherapist and or opening an Art Without Boundaries Chapter.
The Membership fee is $3,000.
A deposit of at least $100.00 is required before starting the curriculum.
You have an option of paying the fee in one payment or over several
months.
If you choose to pay over several months, you may not start the on-line
curriculum until you have made a deposit of at least $100 and cannot
complete the last unit (on the actual process) until you have made your
last payment.
Q: Do I have to fill out an another application to be able to make
payments?
A: No. There won't be a credit check and if you make the minimum
payment of $50.00 per month, you won't have to pay any interest. If a
payment is not made before the last day of the month, a late fee of
$15.00 will be added to your account.
If you do not make the minimum payment for 2 months, at the beginning
of the 3rd month you will forfeit your apprenticeship.
You may pay by credit card or by personal check. If, for any reason, your
personal check fails to clear the bank, you will be charged a penalty of
$50.00 and your access to the curriculum revoked until the payment and
penalty is received.
Payment terms may be changed at the discretion of MnemeCorp, LLC at
any time. You will be notified by email of any changes. If you wish to get a
loan from an institution to make the payments you may do so.
Q: I read about recruiting to pay my tuition. How does that work?
A: If you recruit a qualified artist from another area and they are
accepted into the program and pay their tuition, you will be paid a
recruiting bonus of $500.00 credit on your account. If they make
payments, you will receive 50% credit on each payment they make.
If your tuition is paid in full, we'll start an expense fund for you for
certification week.
You will receive a link to instructions about recruiting upon request.
You can also use our ongoing fund raiser, Imagine That! or the eBay
Giving Works program to raise funds for your tuition. The link to both are
on the front page of our website:

Q: What does "Apprentice" mean exactly?
A: As explained in the Q and A, we operate on the
Mentor/Apprentice system. If you have been recruited by MMT
(Master MnemeTherapist) he or she will act as mentor throughout
the training process, and oversee certification. Others will be
trained by me.
Your mentor will grade tests and give verbal exams over the
phone. No one fails the course. When you have successfully
completed the on-line curriculum, you and your Mentor will
mutually agree on the Certification time and place.
The expenses of the Certification Week are your responsibility
and include travel, lodgings and meals. Since your Mentor will be
riding with you to the Training Hosts, additional transportation
such as a rental car is not necessary. We have a no Diva policy,
meaning there will be no demand for 5 star hotels or first class
airfare. Some mentors, (including me) are willing to stay with your
friends if certain criteria is met.
Q: What happens during Certification Week?
A: The Certification exam requires 20 on-site supervised hours
working with actual clients in health care facilities, special
schools, private schools, adult day centers or in private homes.
You must be able to spend 5 business days with the mentor, with
Saturday being optional, if more training is required. If your
mentor comes to your area you will set up as many training host
locations/clients as possible. Ideally two per day, with a
combination of autistic and dementia facilities and clients. You will
offer the services free of charge to the Training Host.
During that time you will not only learn first hand protocols of
working with clients, you will also learn how ask for and to give
"demos," in adult day centers, health care facilities, hospitals,
rehab centers, special schools, autism programs in public
schools and occasionally in private homes.

Q: Where will I be working after I graduate?
A: Although our training includes how to get accounts, AWBA does not
provide accounts for you or make any guarantees about the level of your
success. Association Members are encouraged to help each other and
some Members do one-on-one business consulting for a fee.
Q: Will I receive a protected territory?
A: No, there are no assigned or protected service areas. The AWBA
Council has set service area guidelines to follow to insure compliance with
state and federal regulations and equal access by the public. You will use a
CAP Formula (coverage according to population) that has been set to
determine the number of counties that a one artist chapter can cover and to
insure that the state is equitably divided. Each Member will calculate the
CAP Score for the counties they plan on servicing and register the
counties. Service area registration is included in the Membership fee. New
applicants will view a list of counties that are currently being serviced just as
you did and if that area is being currently serviced, they may apply to work
for the Chapter as an independent contractor.
Q: There is a large city about an hour away from my home. What if I
plan on hiring an Independent Contractor or an employee and want
to cover more area than the CAP formula allows?
A: A large urban area may support multiple Chapters. Only counties that
can't support a Chapter, with a CAP Score of 100 or less can be added to
the original service area by paying a membership fee of $2.00 per CAP
Point. The County must be contiguous, meaning touching borders.
Example: Charles County has a CAP score of 85. The registration fee is
$170.

Q: Why do I have to pay Membership dues?
A: Membership in AWBA grants you the right to use the name Art
Without Boundaries, MnemeTherapy and the process of
MnemeTherapy. Concisely put, you get to be a MnemeTherapist.
A person can't say, I think I'll be a MnemeTherapist and just start
using the name AWB. Our professional Association is not
voluntary because someone cannot be a MnemeTherapist unless
they join the Association and are trained to become one and
receive certification from AWBA. The dues allow you to continue
to use the name and the process. Let's look at an example: My T-
shirt company contracts with Disney to use a picture of Mickey
Mouse on a T-shirt that we sell for $25.00. Disney doesn't say,
"OK use it all you like and make all the money you want from our
image, you don't have to pay us a thing." We would have to pay
every time we use it, because we're using it to make money. If we
wanted to add Donald Duck to our line of T-shirts we'd have to
pay for him too.
We do give a chance to start making money before you start
paying dues. You don't have to pay during your graduation month
or the following month. On the first day of the third month you will
pay $50 for the first MnemeTherapist in your chapter (you) and
$30.00 for each additional MnemeTherapists (employees or
independent contractors you may hire.)
In addition to allowing you to use the name Art Without
Boundaries and the process of MnemeTherapy, paying monthly
dues:
- Entitles your chapter to receive a page on the AWBA
website. Your page will include photos taken during
training, and photos you send in after you begin servicing
accounts.
- Participate in any AWBA sponsored fund raiser going on.
Most return 100% of collected funds to your chapter to
provide scholarships that you may use at your discretion.
- Benefit from nation-wide advertising or media coverage of
AWBA.
- Get access to 3 blogs that provide you with AWBA news
and success stories, continuing education and the latest in
MT techniques.
- Involvement in governance, full voting rights, may serve on
Council or committees
- AWBA has tax exempt status under section 501 c 3 of the
Internal Revenue Code. You will have the ability to send
potential donors to the website to make tax deductible
contributions.
- Other benefits which may be offered in the future such as
group insurance, long term care program and group
discounts on travel and entertainment.
Q: How can I get the designation of Master
MnemeTherapist?
A: Applying to the Master MnemeTherapy program is open to any
Certified MnemeTherapist who has graduated the program,
successfully opened a chapter (have as many accounts as they
wish to service) and has, at least, three months experience with
both children on the ASD spectrum and adults with dementia and
other cognitive impairment.
MMTs can recruit and train CMTs and receive a training bonus of
75% of the paid tuition. Details and costs associated with this
program are outlined in MMT Agreement. AWBA is not opening
any new chapters in the following 14 states: IL, MD, CA, VA, NY,
RI,IN,WS,ND,SD,MN,MI,WA,HI. Chapter Owners may recruit
independent contractors in unserviced areas in the 14 states.
Cost of the MMT program:
- If you were able to pay the whole tuition upon acceptance,
the MMT course is free.
- If you were able to pay half the tuition upon acceptance
and half within 30 days the MMT course is $600.
- If you were able to pay the whole tuition within 3 months the
course is $900.
- If you had to make monthly payments the cost is $1,200 for
the MMT course.

Q: What if I decide that I don't want to continue the program?
A: If you decide you no longer wish to participate in our program, you may notify us at any time, in writing of your exit date.
If you are in the training program and are making payments, your payments will end on your exit date and no back
payments will be due. If you have opened your chapter, your obligation to pay the membership dues ends on your exit
date, but back dues must be paid. The Association Membership fee is non-refundable. Now for the legalese. Please
read the next section carefully.
Q: What if I want to add-on more than one county?
A: You have to write an email and make the request. The Council will
look at the state and determine if it can support another chapter in your
area. awbf@bellsouth.net
