1. Preparing for takeoff!
Your only responsibility in this fund raiser is to let
others know about it.
There are many ways to do that:
- Start it off with a bang! Everyone loves a party! Get staff and
supporter together for a kick off. Your job is to be prepared with lots
of handouts and posters printed out and a way to show the
SmileBoxes if you plan to use them. You may get better attendance
from staff if you have it at a time that it's more convenient for people
to come like right after work or during lunch (make sure you have
plenty of food!) If you can't arrange a get together, make sure
everyone has access to the handouts and posters and has a chance
to see the movie.
- A little friendly competition can be a lot of fun. Make up a board to
track e mails sent out, number of handouts or posters placed. Or
challenge another organization to see who can raise the most money.
The prize doesn't have to be big, just meaningful.
Post it!
Although it's optional, you can add items to your auction that are
unique to your community.
Many other teams and other bidders will be participating in the monthly
auction. Items you collect and include will be in a special category and
marked for your local bidders only. Even if some other team's supporter
wins the bid, you will get the credit.
Posting gives you a chance to showcase the beautiful painting coming out
of the sessions and donated items will give your team a much bigger return.
Here are some ideas from Ezine:
Your procurement team (don't do this alone!) should be looking for items,
experiences, and activities that are not easily purchased. These will have
greater value, but a lower starting bid.
- Pizza a week for six months
- A day on the farm
- Roller skating party
- Family kayaking for a day (with lesson)
- Paintball for a group
- A group father/son baseball outing
- Family season pass to district sporting events
- Sunset cruise with wine & cheese for a group
- Lunch with the mayor
- Tennis lessons
- Golf lessons
- Dance lessons for a group
- Poker night for a group with refreshments
- Six months of flowers from a local florist
- A chauffeur for a day
- Cooking class for a group

- Catered lunch for the office
- Appetizers and a keg of beer (wine)
- A father/son charter fishing trip
- Dinner with a local celebrity
- Mother/daughter spa day
- Police/Fireman for a day (ride in a vehicle, station tour, wear the
gear, and photographs)
- Group walk in your town's parade
- Riding lessons
- Half page ad in your local magazine/newspaper
- Beach weekend for the family/or two
- CD/DVD a week for six months
- Lasik eye surgery
- Teeth whitening
- A massage
- A chiropractic adjustment
- Tour of a local factory, newspaper, radio/TV station, or sporting arena
- The latest computer or entertainment system & installation
- Computer clean up
- Yard clean up

- Professional interior design consultation
- Super Bowl party
- Backstage pass at a nearby concert
- Tickets to local amusement park
- Weekend getaway for two at a nearby city

- Gift cards to local merchants or restaurants (see note below)
Local merchants and restaurants get hounded by people asking them to
donate. Items on the list that require purchase can be sponsored by an
organization that traditionally does not have "products" to trade for
advertising, such as social, service and charitable groups, leagues and
clubs. (Lions, Elks, Moose, Rotary, Kiwanis,Homemakers)
Radio and TV stations are a great place to hit because they get lots of free
tickets from sponsors to sought after entertainment venues.
You can either copy and paste this list or print the whole page (the
background color will not print)

2. Launch!
Getting the Word Out...
eTeam members don't have to work at or for your organization to
participate. If you belong to a club or organization, you can invite
them to become team members too. Bidders will register as
supporters on our site first so we can track where the proceeds go.
Or, if you belong to a social Internet site like Facebook, Myspace,
Xanga or Blogger you can upload our Smilebox announcement or
just let everyone know the web address, dates and your team name.
Each SmileBox is specific for your situation:
- organization/groups/friend for special needs children
- Organization/groups/ friends of adults with Alzheimer's,
stroke, and other related disorders
If you only want to send out a simple email with a web address, send
out http://artwithoutboundaries.org and tell them to click on
AUCTION. That will take them to the auction index and onto the
supporter registration. An example email is on the right.
Safety
The SmileBox presentations are located on another website, so
your recipient doesn't have to download anything onto their
computer or open an attachment.
How to use the SmileBox presentation
Pick out the SmileBox you want to use (student or adult).
Make sure you include your contact information, team name, team
code and dates they can participate in the auction. Remember the
auction runs the first 10 days of the month so your supporters can
come back again and again!

Hi, everyone!
We've found a new cutting edge therapy that would be really helpful for our (students, kids, residents, participants) and we can get it free... if you'll help.
It's easy and fun to participate. The best thing is you don't have to walk, collect money, sell anything or take pledges!
We're participating as a team to let people know about the Art Without Boundaries Online Auction. Lots of great deals! This SmileBox will tell you more. You can watch it, post it, and forward it on to your friends too.
Anyone can be on our team and help. Just tell everyone that the auction takes place the first 10 days of each month and when they register to put in our TEAM NAME AND CODE:
Thanks for making a difference!

Thanks for registering your AWB e-Team!
This tutorial is designed to help you successfully launch
your e-team. There are two things you and your team have
to decide:
- How you are going to let people know about the
upcoming auction.
- If you want to list AWB paintings and donated items.
(optional)
The tutorial will help you with those two area. If, at any time you have
questions, you can ask the AWB Chapter leader who encouraged you
to form a team, or email us at awbf@bellsouth.net
After you finish this page, you will enter the auction for a look around or
to start posting.

"Free" business cards
Vistaprint.com offers free business cards for just the cost of shipping. The hook is to get you to buy other things that do cost, so they dangle lots of goodies in front of you on the way to check out. Be strong. Check the slowest and cheapest shipping because it always comes faster than they say.
Illustration below shows you can skip lines to leave spaces on the card (see fill in on the left)
|
You may use any picture
on this site to make
posters, postcards or
fliers for the auction.
From time to time Vista Print offers free postcards. I list the link on the team blog when they are being offered and the x date. http://awbteams.blogspot.com/
See examples below of how paintings can be used for postcards and how to do it yourself
|
Postcards are great tools because they are pretty and people
tend to put them up rather than throw them away or lose them
like business cards.
Click on these pictures to get a bigger version if you want to use them as
a postcard. (right click, save as, remember where you save them) I
picked ones that could be stretched to work on a 5 x7 over-sized
postcard without looking funky. (Use your back button to return to this
page.)
You can also make your own on heavy card stock. You can make a
master with 4 on a sheet to run them off on a color copier (see illustration
right) Just make sure the copier can handle the heavier paper
Paintings you can use as postcards or hand-outs

Leave room to sign your name and team name at bottom
|
Obviously you would change the
colored words to fit your situation
and take out the little message at
the bottom about saving room.
Run these off 4 to a sheet and then
do a practice run when you print the
postcard on the other side to make
sure you've got them both facing
the right way.
Use for vertical card
