Donna Therrien, Andover, MA

I grew up and still live in Andover, Massachusetts.  I have two
sons, ages 22 and 18.  I've drawn and painted all my life but did
not get formal training until I went to Montserrat College of Art at
age 30.  I've worked as a floral designer and then as a secretary
for an attorney who eventually put me through school to become
a paralegal at Northeastern University.  Down the road, my boss
got very ill and had to close the office.  I then worked for several
years as a paralegal in Gloucester, MA, doing work in estate
planning and probate where I loved working with the elderly.

Several years ago, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's
disease. She was my very best friend and taught me how to draw
as a child. So when I saw the website for Art Without Boundaries,
I immediately thought "This would be wonderful!"  I felt I would be
able to learn to help my mother and others with dementia,
incorporate my love of art and make a difference.  Soon after I
began my training as a Mneme Therapist my mother got very ill
and passed away at age 80, too soon to experience the benefits
of MnemeTherapy. It was then that I knew I needed to put all
aside to become a MnemeTherapist.  I am still amazed with the
process and how it helps those with all types of dementia and
autism.

I have found throughout my training and working with those with
brain impairments that this is a truly wonderful experience for
them.  It really makes a difference in their lives by making
connections in the brain and making them smile as well as the
families who are touched by them. I'm proud to be part of the Art
Without Boundaries family.
